Ford Mustang Mach-E is a Top Safety Pick

The Ford Mustang Mach-E isn’t just an all-electric powerhouse — it’s also safe. The all-new, all-electric SUV recently ran through the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s specialized gauntlet of crash and driver assistance technology tests and was found to be wanting for nothing.

In all crashworthiness categories, which range from roof integrity evaluations to the notoriously difficult small overlap front crash test, the Mustang Mach-E earned the IIHS’s highest possible score of “Good”.

But good crash tests aren’t enough in this day and age. To earn a Top Safety Pick rating, the Mach-E also needed to perform in the crash avoidance evaluations — and did so splendidly. The Mach-E earned the IIHS’s highest possible score of “Superior” for its vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention.

“This award validates the efforts of the Mustang Mach-E team to create an electric vehicle that not only turns heads, but helps keep our customers and their passengers safe,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford chief product platform and operations officer. “We continue to prioritize safety performance for our entire portfolio.”

The IIHS also gave a top score to the Mach-E’s optional LED headlights, another requirement for the award.

So there you have it: the all-new Mustang Mach-E is fast, eco-friendly, efficient, and to top it all off, it ranks among the safest vehicles in the industry. Get a closer look at Laird Noller Lawrence Ford in Lawrence, Kansas!

How to Keep Your Kids Quiet on a Road Trip

kids road trip

As parents, you may have noticed that road trips were easier to enjoy before you had kids. As much as we love our little ones, they can be a lot to handle in a car — and dealing with loud, rambunctious kids while at the wheel of a multi-thousand-pound vehicle is just the wrong time. In fact, about a quarter of crashes occur when drivers are dealing with kids in the back!

In the name of safety and sanity, these are some tips for keeping your kids quiet on a road trip.

Set expectations

Children need boundaries. Before the trip, tell your kids how you expect them to behave. Share the day’s schedule, explain the rules, and reward good behavior. Use your best judgement to determine what those rules should be depending your children’s ages and personalities.

Stop frequently

Adults may be able to sit in a seat for hours at a time, but it’s much harder for kids, if not impossible. Stop every two or three hours at the minimum for stretch and bathroom breaks, and look out for places you can stop to have an extended break and check out something local that the kids might enjoy — even if it’s just the slide at a neighborhood park.

Anticipate illness

One in five children experience motion sickness while in a car. You’ll have a much better time on your road trip if you come prepared for such an eventuality. Make sure you have plenty of preventive medicine and that you keep the car well ventilated and free from odors. Stock up on healthy snacks and drinks, too.

If you’re planning an upcoming road trip, schedule a service appointment at Laird Noller Lawrence Ford in Lawrence, Kansas, to ensure your vehicle is just as read as you are!

Ford Explorer Hybrid | Laird Noller Lawrence Ford | Lawrence, KS

If you’re considering switching to a more eco-friendly vehicle, you should consider Ford hybrid SUVs. The brand’s lineup of fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles is continuing to grow — and so is the recognition those vehicles are receiving. U.S. News & World Report recently added three Ford SUVs to its list of the 12 Most Fuel-Efficient Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid SUVs for 2021.

The three Ford hybrids that made the cut were the Ford Explorer Hybrid, the Ford Escape Hybrid, and the Ford Escape PHEV.

The 2021 Explorer Hybrid impressed the publication with its strong 3.3-liter V6 engine, which generates 318 horsepower and 322 lb-ft of torque. Thanks in part to its electric motor, this hybrid SUV can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.

The 2021 Escape Hybrid also made the list. Its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine combines with its single electric motor to produce 200 horsepower. The publication estimates that choosing the hybrid version of the 2021 Escape will save you around $300 in gas every year.

Finally, there’s the 2021 Escape PHEV. This highly efficient SUV may not be available at dealerships yet, but that didn’t stop U.S. News & World Report from giving it a big recommendation. With its extensive all-electric range and groundbreaking electric powertrain, the 2021 Escape PHEV is easily the most efficient Ford SUV on the list.

If you’re in the market for an efficient and reliable vehicle, you can test drive the new 2021 Ford Explorer Hybrid and 2021 Escape Hybrid right here at Laird Noller Lawrence Ford in Lawrence, Kansas. The 2021 Escape PHEV will be hitting our lot soon.

Ford Donates Laptops to the Girls in Engineering Academy

Ford Logo | Laird Noller Lawrence Ford | Lawrence, KS

Ford’s commitment to future innovation and equality continues to grow. The automaker recently made a generous donation of more than 40 laptops to the Girls in Engineering Academy in an effort to help give middle-school-age girls better access to science, engineering, and technology resources.

These laptops will enable young women to have access to the internet for their studies, making their academic lives easier and giving them a better chance of making it to college.

The Girls in Engineering Academy is based out of Detroit, and was created by the Engineering Society of Detroit back in 2017. Their goal is to enable young women to more-easily pursue careers in the fields of science and technology. The academy hosts year-long programs dedicated to various scientific fields, as well as to mathematics and engineering. Their classes are currently being taught remotely, further necessitating the availability of portable technology like laptops.

Gerald O. Thompkins, the program director at GEA, believes that Ford’s laptop donation will go a long way toward supporting kids from lower-income families and communities in the Metro Detroit area. We here at Laird Noller Lawrence Ford of Lawrence, Kansas, applaud the ongoing efforts of Ford to improve the learning opportunities for the middle-school girls of Detroit. Every time Ford gives back to the world community, it once again proves that its mission goes far beyond simply producing reliable vehicles. Celebrate the altruistic spirit of this automaker when you stop by our dealership to test-drive a shiny new Ford.

4 Spring Service Tips To Help Your Car Bounce Back From Winter

Ford Service | Laird Noller Lawrence Ford | Lawrence, KS

Spring is on the way in Lawrence, Kansas — and that means it’s the perfect time to get your vehicle ready for warmer temperatures. After the recent onslaught of nasty winter weather, these spring service tips will help your car run more smoothly and safely as you get out and enjoy the sun.

Get a battery test

Your car battery has to work much harder as temperatures drop, and there were certainly a lot of sub-freezing days in Lawrence this winter. Rising temperatures can be just as tough on batteries, so have a test done to make sure yours is still in good shape. If it’s ailing, replacing it now will save you a hassle later.

Check your tires

Winter conditions can hand your tires a beating. Get the tread depth checked out to make sure your tires can properly grip wet spring roads. While you’re at it, make sure the pressure in each tire is at the manufacturer’s recommended level — spring’s fluctuating temperatures can easily lead to overinflation or underinflation.

Replace the wiper blades

Ice and snow can do a number on your car’s wiper blades, making them less effective at maintaining visibility during spring showers. Check to see if it’s time to replace them, and be sure to top off the wiper fluid while you’re at it.

Don’t forget an oil change

Last but certainly not least, has your vehicle received an oil change lately? No matter the season, replacing old oil and getting a new oil filter on schedule will help your vehicle run more effectively and last longer.

Here at Laird Noller Lawrence Ford, we’re here to help you welcome spring. Set up an appointment soon with our friendly service experts to give your car the warm-weather care it deserves.
